Before Your Appointment

Preparing for a Hearing Evaluation

You don't need to do anything complicated before your hearing evaluation. However, thinking about the situations where you experience the most difficulty can help us better understand your communication needs.

  • Think about where you have the most trouble hearing, such as conversations, television, restaurants or group settings.
  • Bring your current hearing aids if you already wear them.
  • Bring any questions you have about your hearing or hearing aids.
  • Consider bringing a family member or someone familiar with your hearing concerns if you would find that helpful.
Adjusting to Better Hearing

What to Expect With New Hearing Aids

Hearing aids introduce sounds that you may not have heard clearly for some time. Becoming comfortable with those sounds can take time, and your experience may change as you become accustomed to wearing your hearing aids.

Your Own Voice May Sound Different

Your voice may initially sound louder or different than you remember. This often becomes more natural as you adjust.

Everyday Sounds May Be More Noticeable

Sounds such as footsteps, paper, dishes or running water may seem more noticeable when you first begin wearing hearing aids.

Adjustment Takes Time

Your brain needs time to become reacquainted with sounds that may have been reduced by hearing loss.

Follow-Up Is Important

Programming adjustments can help improve comfort and performance as we learn more about your real-world listening experiences.

Protect Your Investment

Hearing Aid Care & Maintenance

Routine care can help keep your hearing aids working properly. Your specific hearing aids may require additional maintenance depending on the style and manufacturer.

Keep Them Clean

Wipe your hearing aids regularly with an appropriate dry, soft cloth and keep microphones and openings clear of debris.

Check Wax Guards & Domes

Wax guards, domes and other replaceable parts may need periodic replacement to maintain proper performance.

Protect From Moisture

Follow the manufacturer's recommendations for protecting your hearing aids from excessive moisture and heat.

Recharge or Replace Batteries

Keep rechargeable hearing aids charged according to the manufacturer's instructions or replace disposable batteries as needed.

Store Them Safely

When not being worn, keep hearing aids in a safe location away from children and pets.

Schedule Professional Maintenance

Periodic professional cleaning and maintenance can help identify issues that may not be obvious during routine home care.
